DUT ENERGY TECHNOLOGY STATION
Outdoor Solar Lighting Project installed at DUT
A total of 25 lighting systems were installed at the Steve Biko Campus, DUT in December 2015 to create awareness on sustainable utilisation of solar energy for lighting off grid areas. The lighting system demonstrates technology utilising the latest compact design, combining LED lighting with solar photovoltaic systems. The long-term performance assessment of the system will also be determined. Each of the systems includes a 70Wp poly crystalline solar panel, 240Wh Nickel metal hydrides battery and 50W LED light with maximum lighting efficacy of 152lm/W. The project was designed using the google map tool for identifying the suitable sites for lighting campus area optimally. The project has been done in conjunction with Conlog and Schneider Electrical (the funder).
